From 11 April 2013, there is no longer a discount on new registrations for microchipped cats and dogs.
It is still compulsory for all registered cats and dogs to be microchipped, but now the registration discount will apply only if the animal is:
- Desexed
- Over 10 Years Old
- Kept for Working Stock
- Undergone Obedience Training with Victorian Canine Association
- Registered with VCA
- Kept by a Registered Breeder

- To register a new pet you need to fill in a pet registration application form
- The law requires all owners to register all cats and dogs over 3 months with their local council
- All new cats and dog registered must be microchipped
- Registration period goes from 10 April to 9 April annually
- The first year of registration is free for pets under three months old
- Upon receipt of completed registration form and payment, a tag will be issued on the spot. If paying by mail, the tag will be mailed with your receipt
- Registration tags must be worn on the pet's collar at all times. This tag assists Council to contact you should your pet be found away from home
- Failure to register your pet will incur a penalty

If this is a new pet registration: - Return completed application form with payment to a Council Customer Service Centre in person
- Return completed application form with your credit card details filled in or a cheque/money order made out to 'City of Greater Dandenong' for the appropriate amount to:
