Access to secure, appropriate, affordable and well designed housing is vital to peoples’ health and wellbeing. A strong housing market that meets community needs can be an important source of wealth creation and contribute to the social, economic and environmental sustainability of the municipality.
Council is preparing a Municipal Housing Strategy which will enable Council to plan for the sustainable supply of quality housing and accommodation that meets the needs of all current and future residents in Greater Dandenong.
Housing in Greater Dandenong: Briefing Paper
To support and inform a Municipal Housing Strategy, Council undertook a comprehensive housing research and consultation program to identify the key housing challenges and opportunities facing the City of Greater Dandenong and its community. The key findings from this housing research program are summarised in Council’s Housing in Greater Dandenong: Briefing Paper.

Statement of Intent
On 9 July 2012, Greater Dandenong Council adopted a Housing in Greater Dandenong: Statement of Intent, which establishes the scope and directions for the future Municipal Housing Strategy and states Council’s position on a number of housing-related matters, such as housing affordability, design and diversity; liveable neighbourhoods; revitalisation and investment, and population growth.
The Housing In Greater Dandenong: Statement of Intent will guide Council decision-making and underpin engagement with the development sector, government agencies, residents and key stakeholders until the Municipal Housing Strategy is finalised.
The future Municipal Housing Strategy will outline the means by which these actions shall be implemented.
