Health and Wellbeing

The health and wellbeing of the local community is vital to the long term prosperity of the city and its people, including residents, people that work in and run businesses in the city and people that use local services.

Greater Dandenong Health Plan 2006 – 2009

The City of Greater Dandenong's municipal public health plan Greater Dandenong: A Healthy City sets directions for improving health and wellbeing of the whole community.

It identifies economic, social and environmental factors that influence our health and proposes high level strategic initiatives to improve health and wellbeing in our community through partnerships with other organisations and through advocacy to other levels of government.

Health Promotion Programs & Projects

Food for Everybody
The City of Greater Dandenong “Food For Everybody” project aims to ease food insecurity in vulnerable communities in the municipality. New arrivals and people living in marginalised housing (rooming houses and caravan parks) are key target groups.

Walking School Bus

The Walking School Bus program is a VicHealth initiative that’s gives communities an effective and easy way to get children walking to school again.

Today in Victoria nearly one-third of all children spend less than 5 minutes walking per day. Inactive children are more likely to be overweight – with the proportion of Australian children who are in this category now reaching 25%. Walking to and from school gives children the opportunity to engage in regular physical activity.
