Food Services (Meals on Wheels)
The City of Greater Dandenong's Food Service can provide a range of quality meals to an person's home when it becomes difficult for them to cook for themselves.
Meals on Wheels can also supply meals to many senior citizens clubs within the City of Greater Dandenong. Whether a club requires meals weekly, monthly or for a special occasion, Meals on Wheels can help.
Please be assured that Community Chef products used by this service are NOT affected by the recent recall on frozen vegetables. The service does not source any of the frozen vegetables from any of the affected countries.
Menus and meals
Seasonal menus based on a four week rotation are provided. Each day recipients can choose a main meal, a side dish, a sweet, fruit or yoghurt and also receive a soup and juice.
The meal portions fulfil guidelines set by the Home and Community Care (HACC) program and are in line with the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and Dietary Guidelines for Australians.
Meals are prepared by a state-of-the-art purpose built facility in Altona, which was established by 20 Victorian local governments.
Delivery of meals
Cook-chilled meals are delivered from a purpose built distribution centre within the municipality. They are deliverd to homes by community volunteers who generously give their time to help others.
