Waste and Recycling

Waste Service Options and Charges

Council provides a number of different waste and recycling bin options to meet individual needs. The price structure on your rates notice reflects the service cost to Council.

The service options available are geared at encourgaging residents to reduce waste to landfill.

Only the property owner or authorised property manager may select bin options. Tenants should contact their property manager if they wish to make a change to their bin option.

Garbage bins

New residents

If you are a property owner moving into a new residence make sure you complete a New Property - Application for New Bins form (Word - 389KB) and return to Customer Service Centre or via post, fax or email.

Downsizing your garbage bin

The standard red lid garbage bin is 120 litres. If you currently have a 120 litre garbage bin and find that you do not fill it, you can apply for a smaller, 80 litre garbage bin. Downsizing your garbage bin encourages recycling, causing savings in landfill, better use of resources and a cleaner environment.

Do you:

  • not fill your garbage bin most weeks?
  • not have to put your bin out every week because it is not full?
  • have a compost bin or a worm farm, or are willing to start one?
  • want to keep learning more about recycling, reuse and waste reduction?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you might want to consider reducing your garbage bin size.

If you choose to downsize your garbage bin size, you will receive a reduction on your residential garbage levy in your rates. There is a one-off delivery charge of $16.70 per bin, which will be applied to your rates.

To downsize your garbage bin, complete the Change of Bin form (Word - 412KB) and return to Customer Service Centre or via post, fax or email.

Requesting an additional garbage bin

If you and your family create more waste than your bins can fit, you can choose to purchase an additional120 litre garbage bin. People with certain medical conditions (evidence required) can apply to receive an additional garbage bin at no charge.

There is a $152 annual service fee plus a one-off bin delivery charge of $35 if you request an additional 120 litre garbage bin. Both of these amounts will be applied to the residential garbage levy in your rates.
