Kitchen Challenge

The City of Greater Dandenong has been awarded Vic Health funding for 2018 to bring Kitchen Challenge to Dandenong. A program delivered by Food Works Australia’s Rob Rees, Kitchen Challenge is a leadership development program delivered in the context of a commercial kitchen cooking challenge.

Participants in the Challenge are local business leaders and young disadvantaged jobseekers who together take on the challenge of gaining the required cooking skills to deliver a three course restaurant quality meal for fifty guests.

The cooking is only one of the skills that the participants take away from this program – increased leadership and teamwork capabilities, better empathy and emotional intelligence and improved mental health and well-being are the most valuable attributes gained.

“I think we are learning more from the young people than they are learning from us” said one corporate participant in the August Kitchen Challenge program and “It has made me a better leader” offered another.
