Help Shape the Future of Barry J Powell Reserve

Community Consultation Summary - Stage 1

Thank you once again to everyone who participated in the online forums and face-to-face consultations. Council has been really pleased with the broad cross section of community members’ interest and input in the project. Overwhelming responses were provided online and the park drop-in day.

The key ideas for Barry J Powell Reserve were:

  • Improvements to the two playgrounds, including providing shade and seating

  • Improvements to the sport and spectator facilities, including upgrading the existing sports pavilion, the toilet facilities and sheltered areas for spectators

  • Support for a multi-purpose court space for netball and basketball

  • Provide a circuit walking path around the park to support the informal walking and cycling recreation that is an important activity at the Reserve

  • Potential for improved areas that cater for social sport, fitness stations or outdoor gym and play

  • Improvements to the dog off leash area including fencing and more bins

  • Plant more trees and vegetation to provide more shady areas and wind breaks and to improve the visual amenity and environmental qualities of the park

  • Provide more park amenities such as bbq and picnic facilities, seating, toilets, shade and drinking fountains to support social recreation

Feedback received will be fed directly into the development of the draft Barry J. Powell Reserve Master Plan that Council is currently working on. Council will report back to you when the next stage of community consultation on the draft master plan will be commencing.

Thank you once again to everyone who participated in the online forums and face-to-face consultations. Your feedback on the Future of Parks in Greater Dandenong is invaluable.
