Open House Melbourne: Drum Theatre
Since 2008, Open House Melbourne weekend has grown to be one of the most widely attended cultural events in Victoria, and on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July, Dandenong will open its doors to some of its most iconic buildings, including The Dandenong Town Hall and Drum Theatre.
Originally built as The Dandenong Town Hall in 1890 on the corners of Lonsdale and Walker streets, it has stood the test of time.
Originally built as a combined Shire Hall and Mechanics Institute, it has also fulfilled the role of public hall, court house, local library and council chambers, and has witnessed numerous celebrations, ceremonies and public meetings throughout its 127 year history.
In 2006 it was re-imagined and re-developed in to the 521 seat Drum Theatre which stands today.
