Council's commitment to public art is visible by its diverse and dynamic range of works across the city. Since 1985, over $1.3 million has been invested in 72 public art installations across the municipality, ranging from permanent, temportary and ephemeral applications.
Council has renewed this commitment by endorsing a new Public Art Strategy to follow on from the ground breaking work done under the previous five year strategy.
The new strategy provides Council with a vision to establish Greater Dandenong as leaders in public art practice in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. Council will embrace new technologies and applications to ensure a dynamic and challenging public art collection. A two-pronged approach will facilitate temporary and permanent installations that form a sustainable collection, whilst celebrating the City's cultural characteristics.
