Recycling Initiatives to Reduce Waste in Greater Dandenong

09 January 2018

The City of Greater Dandenong will offer residents another chance to reduce waste with the return of two Pop-up Drive Thru Recycling Days and Homecycle in 2018.

The free pop-up collections will be held at Greaves Reserve, Bennet Street Dandenong on Saturday 3 February and Saturday, 30 June from 8am to 2pm.

There will be a limit of 15 items per drop off and all items must be brought in a car or trailer.

Some items will be donated to charity, while others will be recycled to create new products.

What you can bring:

  • TVs and computers
  • Electrical appliances
  • Whitegoods (fridges, freezers, washing machines)
  • Furniture (chairs, tables, couches, desks)
  • Mattresses
  • Bicycles
  • Homewares (children’s items, prams, pushers, baby car seats)

A one-off kerbside collection service called Homecycle will also be held between Monday 22 January and Friday 2 February.

The additional collection day will be held the day after household recycling bins are usually emptied. Homecycle is an initiative designed for smaller items that will fit in the recycling bin.

Greater Dandenong Mayor Councillor Youhorn Chea said these free one-off services were for City of Greater Dandenong residents only.

He said residents wanting to participate in the drive-thru days will need to bring the promotional brochure they would have received in their letterbox or proof of address to participate.

“On top of the once yearly free hard waste collection, the Pop-up events and Homecycle provide residents with a chance to dispose of unwanted household items and give them a second life,” Mayor Chea said.

“This is a great opportunity to start the year off on the right note, do your bit for the environment, reduce landfill and give unwanted items a new life.”
