Have your Say on Climate Change

07 November 2018

The City of Greater Dandenong is committed to working towards a sustainable future with a vision to become one of the most sustainable cities in Australia by 2030.

As part of this commitment, Council is working to ensure that it is prepared for climate change and its impact on the community. Council will develop a Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan by 2020 to help respond to this change and guide its decision making into the future.

The Strategy and Action Plan will help Council reduce its carbon emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change, while empowering the local community to do the same.

We want our residents to help form this Strategy and Action Plan and will use different tools to engage with them. Council will start by using some online surveys and forums to help understand what the community knows about sustainability and how you would like Council to be working in this space.

The summer of 2018-19 is set to be one of the longest and hottest on record. With the rising cost of energy bills, Council is committed to helping Greater Dandenong residents reduce these costs and keep themselves cool during the summer period.

We want to find out more about how our community is affected by rising energy bills and how we can help address this issue.

Long range weather forecasts show that this summer will be hotter and drier than usual, and it is up to all of us to use water wisely.

We are asking for feedback about how local households conserve water and what role Council can play in helping save precious resources.

We are asking residents to complete two short surveys, one about the rising cost of energy bills and the other about water conservation.

Council is also offering a limited number of free home energy assessments to eligible households in Greater Dandenong.

Read more information on the assessments and email energyadvice@secca.org.au to register.
